Der Beitrag zeichnet die institutionelle Entwicklung und thematische Breite der Sektion Wissenssoziologie der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Soziologie nach, die im Jahr 2000 aus der Sektion Sprachsoziologie hervorging. Ausgehend von einem weiten Wissensbegriff wird das doppelte Interesse der Wissenssoziologie sowohl am Wandel als auch an den Möglichkeiten der Analyse gesellschaftlicher Wissens- und Handlungsformen hervorgehoben. Die Darstellung verbindet historische Stationen, methodische Innovationen und inhaltliche Schwerpunkte der Sektion und arbeitet die lebendige, plurale Forschungstradition sowie die fortdauernde Relevanz der Sektion für die Analyse gesellschaftlicher Transformationsprozesse heraus.
