Spitzbergen als Brennglas frontieristischer Naturverhältnisse im Wandel

Der Beitrag veranschaulicht am Beispiel der Geschichte der arktischen Insel Spitzbergen ein für die kolonial-kapitalistische Moderne charakteristisches gesellschaftliches Naturverhältnis, das ich in Anlehnung an Jason W. Moore und Anna L. Tsing als frontieristisches Raum- und Naturverhältnis theoretisiere. Dabei handelt es sich um ein performatives Raum- und Naturverhältnis, das spezifische Räume und Naturen weniger voraussetzt, als vielmehr hervorbringt. Insofern es immer dann seine Form verändert, wenn es mit Grenzen oder Krisen konfrontiert ist, ist es gleichermaßen von Transitionen und Kontinuität geprägt. Als paradigmatischer Ort des zugleich transitionierenden und kontinuierlichen Frontierismus veranschaulicht das Beispiel Spitzbergen strukturelle Kontinuitäten zwischen imperialer Landnahme, kapitalistischem Ressourcenextraktivismus und gegenwärtigen Formen des selektiven Naturschutzes.
