In den 1970er Jahren hat die Rechtssoziologie, zugleich mit dem gesamten Fach, einen steilen Höhenflug erlebt. Jedoch anders als in der Allgemeinen Soziologie endete die institutionelle Etablierung bald. Zwar waren viele Professuren eingerichtet worden, aber sie wurden nicht wieder besetzt. Auch das Interesse der Jurisprudenz erlahmte. Der Artikel schildert diskursanalytisch die Ereignisse und fragt nach der wissenschaftssoziologischen Erklärung. Als Novum wird die Figur einer intervenierenden Soziologie eingeführt. Soziologische Forschung auf dem von einer anderen Wissenschaft dominierten Feld kann ihrem Gegenstand zu nahe kommen und wird dann ins Abseits geschoben. Hieraus ist zu lernen.
