Ende des methodologischen Nationalismus?

Soziologie und Anthropologie im Zeitalter der Globalisierung

Abstract

Im internationalen Vergleich erweist sich die institutionelle und disziplinäre Distanz zwischen Soziologie und Anthropologie in Deutschland nicht nur als erklärungsbedürftig, sondern angesichts der gegenwärtigen Globalisierungsprozesse als überholt. Der Beitrag geht den fachgeschichtlichen Ursachen dieser Distanz auf den Grund und kontrastiert sie mit den Entwicklungen im anglo-amerikanischen und dem französischen Sprachraum. Diese werden in der kolonial bedingten gesellschaftswissenschaftlichen Arbeitsteilung und der je unterschiedlichen Beziehung zu den Naturwissenschaften verortet. Gegenwärtige transnationale Problementwicklungen haben jedoch zu neuen Verbindungen zwischen Natur- und Gesellschaftswissenschaften geführt, die zugleich eine Annäherung von Soziologie und Anthropologie zur Folge hat.

Compared to international standard and facing actual procedures of globalization, the institutional and disciplinary detachment between sociology and anthropology in Germany seems not only astonishing, but simply outdated. The paper explores the historical background of this detachment and contrasts it with the situation in the Anglo-American and French communities. In this respect, the colonial circumstanced division of labor in the social sciences in general, and especially the respective relation between sociology, anthropology and the natural sciences in Germany are detected as striking features of disciplinary developments. However, recent transnational problems have engendered new connections between the social and the natural sciences, entailing as well new alignments between sociology and anthropology.
