Muslim-sein und Dating in Lucknow (Indien)

Abstract

Am Beispiel der nordindischen Großstadt Lucknow setzt sich der Beitrag mit „Dating“ als verkörperte Mittelschichtspraxis auseinander. Insbesondere wird dabei auf Veränderungen vorehelicher Beziehungsformen im Kontext technologischen Wandels und der Nutzung von Dating Apps eingegangen.

Anhand vorehelicher Beziehungsformen junger Mittelschichtsmuslime wird diskutiert, wie im Alltag Vorstellungen über Maskulinität, Femininität, Jugendkultur und indischer Moderne on- und offline ausgehandelt und einhergehende Widersprüche mit familiären und religiösen Erwartungen kreativ gelöst werden. Dabei wird deutlich, wie Dating- und Konsumpraxen Zugehörigkeitsdimensionen schaffen, die sich über spezifische Peer-Gruppen und Jugendkulturen mit ihren Konsumwünsche, Lifestyle Orientierungen und Narrativen eines selbstbestimmten Lebens generieren. Abschließend diskutiert der Artikel daher, wie es jungen Erwachsene über Dating und Konsumhandeln gelingt, das Dispositiv des „backward Muslims“ im Alltag zu hinterfragen und Zugehörigkeit letztlich nicht nur zu bestimmten Peer-Gruppen, sondern auch zum Narrativ ‚indische Moderne‘ herzustellen.
