Herausforderungen und Potentiale bei online geführten Gruppendiskussionen

Abstract

Die gängige, offline geführte Face-to-Face-Gruppendiskussion ist elementarer Bestandteil des qualitativen Forschungssettings. In den letzten Jahren wurde dieses Setting im Zuge einer Durchdringung der Gesellschaft mit digitalen Medien durch neue Formen qualitativer Datenerhebung – die sich diese Technikzunahme im Alltag zu Nutze gemacht haben – erweitert. Insbesondere das Internet und seine vielfältigen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten besitzen gegenwärtig Einfluss auf unser Denken, Alltagshandeln und Forschen. Es liegt daher nahe, Gruppendiskussionen auch vermehrt online durchzuführen. Der Beitrag befasst sich vor diesem Hintergrund mit Fragen nach Möglichkeiten und Besonderheiten einer rekonstruktiven Analyse digitaler Daten am Beispiel online geführter, chat-basierter Gruppendiskussionen. Er nennt zentrale Herausforderungen sowie in der Forschungspraxis liegende Potentiale, die aus der besonderen, mediatisierten Erhebungssituation entstehen können. Betrachtet wird dabei auch das interessante Zusammentreffen von Phänomenen der Analyse schriftbasierter Kommunikation mit den Aspekten situierter Technikaneignung im routinisierten Alltag der Menschen.  

The popular face-to-face discussion executed offline is an elementary component of the qualitative research setting. In the past few years – due to the permeation of society by digital media – the latter has been expanded by new forms of qualitative data acquisition which make use of the increasing amount of technology in everyday life. In particular, the internet and its multiple possibilities of utilization have great impact on our way of thinking, our daily routine and our research activities. Therefore, it suggests itself to further online group discussions as well. Against this background, the article deals with the possibilities and special features of a reconstructive digital data analysis using the example of online-conducted chat-based group discussions, thereby naming central challenges as well as potentials of the research practice, which may arise from the specific media-based situation of inquiry. As will become clear, the phenomena gained from the analysis of written-based communication coincide again in an interesting way with aspects of the appropriation of technology by the people in their daily routine.
