Soziologie und Kritik

Abstract

Wie lässt sich der Anspruch der Soziologie, eine kritische Wissenschaft zu sein, einlösen? Der Beitrag bietet erst eine Rekonstruktion der Entwicklung der Trägerschaft und der Domäne von Kritik im Zuge der Entwicklung des Weltbildes der Moderne. Eine entscheidende Konsequenz davon ist die Unterscheidung von Sein und Sollen. Dann werden unterschiedliche Ansätze diskutiert, in denen es um Verbindungen zwischen Sein und Sollen in kritischer Absicht geht. Gegen solche Versuche lautet das zentrale Argument des Artikels, dass der Anspruch, Kritik der Gesellschaft mit soziologischen Mitteln zu betreiben, nicht durch die Konfrontation der Realität mit normativ aufgeladenen Maßstäben, sondern nur über den Umweg einer Soziologie der Kritik realisiert werden kann. Dazu muss sich die Soziologie auf die Analyse der institutionellen Bedingungen für Kritik als gesellschaftliche Praxis konzentrieren.

How can Sociology keep its claim to be a critical science? The article starts with offering a reconstruction of the development of the relevant actors and the domain of critique in the course of the unfolding of modern thought. One crucial consequence of this development is the basic distinction between Sein and Sollen. Subsequently I discuss different approaches which aim at critizising society by bridging the gap between Sein and Sollen. In contrast to such attempts the main argument of the article is that the critical impact of Sociology does not unfold by confronting reality with normative standards but via a sociology of critique. In order to do so, sociology has to focus on analyzing the institutional preconditions for critique as a praxis within society.
